![]() ![]() Because a player can select different civilizations as templates to build upon, there exist potentially one million different civilization patterns that a player can ultimately develop. A distinguishing feature of Humankind is that within each of the eras, the player selects one of ten civilization types based on historical societies this selection offers both bonuses and penalties to how the player can build out the civilization. Players lead their civilization across six major eras of human civilization, starting from the nomadic age, directing how the civilization should expand, developing cities, controlling military and other types of units as they interact with other civilizations on the virtual planet, randomly generated at the start of a new game. Humankind is a 4X game comparable to the Civilization series. It was scheduled to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in November 2022 but was delayed indefinitely due to “unique porting challenges”, eventually releasing in August 2023. The game was released for Microsoft Windows and Stadia in August 2021, and for macOS in November 2021. There are a lot more points of similarity and differences, that we would be happy to discuss with you! But it is important to note that these are complementary roles, that together can provide the best possible care, support and experience for birthing parents.Humankind is a turn-based strategy 4X video game by Amplitude Studios and published by Sega. This means there is a critical role that the doula can play in providing continuity of support, that complements the clinical care provided by midwives and medical professionals. ![]() A midwife’s workload means that they not always able to remain with a birthing parent throughout the whole labour. Around only 10% of people have continuous care from a midwife or other medical professional during pregnancy and birth. Whilst a midwife could provide equivalent support to a doula, the reality of the public health system means that the vast majority of birthing parents are not able to see the same midwife continuously throughout their care. A doula is trained to provide non-clinical support – including personal, practical, social and emotional support. What’s the difference between a doula and a midwife?Ī midwife is trained to provide clinical (medically based) care and support to women during pregnancy. ![]() Therefore, whilst reduced medical intervention may have benefits, we fully support everyone’s right to know all the options available to them so that they can take best advantage of everything available to them in our first-class public health system. Evidence also shows that appropriate social support and interpersonal care can reduce the need for medical intervention – which can both improve experiences of birth, reduce risks to maternal and child health, and reduce the cost to the public healthcare system. However, we know that many birthing parents do not receive full information about all interventions available and may receive unnecessary medical interventions. We will not encourage one option over another, but instead inform clients about all options available. Our priority is ensuring that all birthing parents receive equitable and respectful maternal care, which includes the right to understand all the birthing options available and choose the one that is right for them – this includes medical interventions and ‘natural’ options. Therefore, our doulas can help clients understand all the potential options available to them so that they can make a free and informed choice about what medical interventions they may want.ĭoes Birth for Humankind encourage natural births? We fully support an individual’s right to choose the level of medical intervention that is right for them. We do however believe there is a difference between having a medically supported birth (with a medical professional, such as a midwife present) and having potentially unnecessary medical intervention during birth. Our volunteers must abide by our Doula Code of Conduct at all times, which ensures this standard is maintained. ![]() Our doulas are skilled and trained to provide complementary non-clinical support to birthing people during pregnancy, birth and early parenting – however we will not provide doulas to birthing parents who are not planning to have clinical (medical) support at their birth.
