![]() ![]() I'm always afraid that when I change gears either parking or getting out, that the fucking thing will roll into someone's car and there is nothing I can do about it. My biggest concern with the car doing this is in parking lots. It also does the same thing when I back out and shift from reverse to drive. As some as I take my foot off, the car rolls forward 6-8 inches. Even though it is a very gentle slope, every time I pull into the driveway to park I come to a full stop, put it in park, then take my foot off the break. I couldn't tell you the exact grade of my driveway but it is so slight you can't even see it is slanted just by glancing at it. My biggest issues with the damn thing is, my driveway has a slight hill and the transmission seems to constantly slip after changing gears. This is the first vehicle I have ever driven that has one and as far as I am concerned it will be the last. I bought my wife a 2011 Nissan Marano and it has a CVT. CVT also tends to make quite a racket when accelerating hard, and isn't very good at towing in some cars. Even-speed hill driving can prove to be a tough endeavour for novice manual transmission drivers.īut, car enthusiasts will say that it’s nowhere near as fun or engaging as a dual clutch automatic or manual transmission. CVT is much better at travelling uphill because where traditional automatics can struggle, a CVT can seamlessly provide power without shifting. It’s good on fuel economy, gives a relatively smooth ride, and is versatile enough for daily driving. These ratios are always changing in order to find the perfect combination for speed, fuel efficiency or both.ĬVT has many advantages and drawbacks. These cones move closer together or further apart to increase or decrease the diameter at which the belt operates. It’s made up of a pulley system, with cones at each pulley, all connected by a chain belt. Imagine the CVT like a bicycle’s gear system. It works by dynamically adjusting a belt, which corresponds to a gear in a regular automatic. CVT or continuously variable transmission essentially removes the slight jerking movement of the car while shifting gears, known as shift shock. ![]()
